Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended after an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, significant disruption are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

Officials linked the operational halt to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers should still plan to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the airport as knock-on effects are cleared.
